LA REVOLUCIÓN DE LOS PÍXELES. ARTE Y VIDEOJUEGOS EN UN MUNDO DIGITAL
2020
Nowadays, the intervention and importance of art in videogames has been (and is) an artistic revolution. We have moved from the interaction to the illustrative action of the scenes and characters, from the pixel to the vector or vice versa, arriving to the creation through the digital tool that has been a great rebellion in all the words in art and also in the History of Art. Therefore, the present study aims to bring the current digital art used in videogames as new artistic productions in a brief and concise manner.
Dynamic Perception of Plastic Movements: Biomechanics and Digital Artifacts
2017
The article offers some reflections on the body-space relationship through images, graphic translations and visual studies that converge into a contemporary digital illuminated avant-garde of the fourth virtual dimension. Starting from the study of the Soviet coreutics of the 1920s and the biomechanics of multimedia performances, it moves on the cinesthetic suggestions and to the dance theorization integrated with the musical score. Finally, some contemporary forms of digital image production are taken into account by addressing a number of issues regarding the exploration of the object-image and its experiential re-elaboration through the production of new graphic knowledge.
Digital Art History at the Crossroads
2022
Information and Communications Technologies, and more specifically online digital media, are revolutionizing the ways to produce and disseminate scientific knowledge. Humanities and social sciences -art history among them- are not alien to this process. The new challenges and opportunities have already generated a body of thinking and abundant case studies. Many of these applications have been exploratory, disconnected, and short-lived, but nonetheless very stimulating. This essay offers a report on the state of the conversation: a meeting at the crossroads, briefly outlining debates, agreements and disagreements, (dis)continuities with the broader framework of the discipline, and future pe…
The little finger ulnar palmar digital artery perforator flap: anatomical basis.
2013
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to explore the cutaneous vascularization of the hypothenar region and investigate the anatomical basis for perforator propeller flaps for coverage of the flexor aspect of the little finger. METHODS: The area between the pisiform and the base of the little finger was studied in 14 hands of fresh cadavers injected with red latex. An oval flap 1.5 cm large was raised along the axis between these two points. Perforators going into the flap were dissected up to their origin from the ulnar palmar digital artery of the little finger, and their distance from the proximal edge of the A1 pulley was recorded. RESULTS: The mean number of perforator arteries entering t…
Chimeric Free Vascularized Metatarsophalangeal Joint With Toe Fillet Flap: A Technique for Reconstruction of the Posttraumatic Metacarpophalangeal Jo…
2018
For painful, dysfunctional, posttraumatic metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints, the free vascularized toe joint transfer may represent a good solution. Successful reconstruction is potentially limited, however, by 2 features of the traditional vascularized metatarsophalangeal (MTP) transfer: inadequate arc of flexion and insufficient soft tissue coverage. The solution to both of these dilemmas lies in the manner of utilizing the donor site. Because of its innate hyperextensibility, rotating the MTP 180° volar to dorsal provides the greatest arc of flexion in the reconstructed MCP. Excellent soft tissue coverage can be provided by elevating the skin paddle of the transferred second toe as a chim…
Propeller Flaps: A Review of Indications, Technique, and Results
2014
In the last years, propeller flaps have become an appealing option for coverage of a large range of defects. Besides having a more reliable vascular pedicle than traditional flap, propeller flaps allow for great freedom in design and for wide mobilization that extend the possibility of reconstructing difficult wounds with local tissues and minimal donor-site morbidity. They also allow one-stage reconstruction of defects that usually require multiple procedures. Harvesting of a propeller flap requires accurate patient selection, preoperative planning, and dissection technique. Complication rate can be kept low, provided that potential problems are prevented, promptly recognized, and adequate…
Through a Glass, Darkly
2013
Political actors increasingly use the microblogging service, Twitter, for the organization, coordination, and documentation of collective action. These interactions with Twitter leave digital artifacts that can be analyzed. In this article, we look at Twitter messages commenting on one of the most contentious protests in Germany’s recent history, the protests against the infrastructure project Stuttgart 21. We analyze all messages containing the hashtag #s21 that were posted between May 25, 2010, and November 14, 2010, by the 80,000 most followed Twitter users in Germany. We do this to answer three questions: First, what distinguishes events that resulted in high activity on Twitter from ev…

Postcards and Supasigns : Extending Integrationist Theory Through the Creation of Interactive Digital Artworks
2007
Integrationism is a post-structuralist theory of language and communication. The theory has been applied to a groundbreaking analysis of writing as a form of communication where writing is teased apart from speech and realigned with spatial configurations in general. Although it has many practical applications, this view can be extremely difficult to comprehend when expressed as a very specific form of writing, that is, as written words on paper. A solution to this problem is offered by the creative interaction design of two digital artworks, Postcard From Tunis and Postcards From Writing. The works are interactive multimedia pieces that creatively express the integrationist theory of writi…
